Morocco Market Watch | June 18th 2015: Morocco equity market returns to green after 3-days in red
Casablanca, Morocco (Capital Markets in Africa):- Morocco equity market returned to green after three consecutive trading days. The Moroccan benchmark stock index (measured as MASI Index) advanced by 0.33 percent to close at 9,532.74 points (with a year-to-date performance to -0.91 percent) with total market capitalization at MAD 483.526 billion (gained almost MAD 1.2 billion against previous trading session market cap of MAD 482.331 billion) and market activities measured as total traded value was recorded at MAD 74.552 million (an increase of 41 percent relative to previous turnover of MAD 126.492 million). Equally, Moroccan most active share index (MADEX) closed at 7,788.97 points (added 0.69 percent compared to previous trading session). Likewise, FTSE CSE Morocco 15 Index added 1.05 percent to close at 8,333.05 points (-5.53 percent year-to-date performance) and FTSE CSE Morocco All-Liquid Index rose by 0.58 percent to end at 7,927.60 points (to bring the year-to-date performance to -1.65 percent).
In term of sector indices, top gainers were Engineering & Equipment Industrial, Materials & Computer Services and Construction & Building Materials sector indices climbed by 2.50 percent, 1.91 percent and 1.24 percent respectively. On the losers’ side were Forestry & Paper sector index (fell by 2.94 percent to close the year-to-date performance at -40.71 percent), Insurance sector index (declined by 1.36 percent and 2.23 percent year-to-date return) and Oil & Gas sector index (went down by 0.51 percent).
Looking at the market price leaders and laggards, the leaders’ were, HOLCIM MAROC surged by 5.94 percent to end at MAD 2,140 and MANAGEM advanced by 5.63 percent to settle at MAD 919.00. Similarly, JET CONTRACTORS surged by 5.21 percent with closing price of MAD 200.00 as well as STROC INDUSTRIES advanced by 5.20 percent to conclude at MAD 87.95. Conversely, MED PAPER, AFRIC INDUSTRIES SA, WAFA ASSURANCE and TOTAL MAROC stumbled by 2.94 percent (to settle at MAD 16.50), 2.82 percent (to end at MAD 310.00), 2.36 percent (with closing price of MAD 3,680.00) and 2.02 percent (to settle at MAD 559.00) respectively.
